Pool cost calculator

Choose the pool, the barrier and the site, and see a range built line by line from published New Zealand figures. Every line shows its source, the date we read it, and whether it includes GST.

Figures last checked 16 September 2026. Re-checked every 6 months.

1. The pool

What kind of pool
Plunge, lap and above-ground pools are not here: we could not find a New Zealand source that publishes an installed price for them, so we do not guess one.
Level, as CheckMyBuilder defines it
Used to show the regional typical alongside your range, not to multiply it. CheckMyBuilder publishes those figures as indicative adjustments for regional labour and materials.

2. The barrier and the site

A barrier is not optional: every residential pool that can hold 400 mm of water needs one, and it needs its own building consent. The rules.

Your range, built from published figures$68,000 – $122,000

Reference POOL-CMAUCAE-68122 · CheckMyBuilder's indicative typical for Auckland is $84,000

The lines below come from sources that treat GST differently, so they are not added into one GST-inclusive figure. Each line says which it is. This is a guide, not a quote. Only a builder who has stood on your section can quote.

How that number was built

  • Mid-range pool build, concrete$60,000 – $110,000excl. GST · CheckMyBuilder, swimming pool cost guide (updated June 2026), checked 16 September 2026 · Larger or premium fibreglass, vinyl-liner, or simpler concrete pool, including compliant barrier fencing and basic surrounds. CheckMyBuilder prices sprayed concrete separately at $80,000–160,000, with large or highly customised projects passing $250,000, so a concrete pool sits in the upper half of any level you pick.
  • Barrier fencing: Aluminium$8,000 – $12,000incl. GST · Ultimate Pools, how much does a fibreglass pool cost in NZ in 2026 (June 2026), checked 16 September 2026 · “Aluminium fencing starts from around $8,000 to $12,000 for a standard perimeter.” CheckMyBuilder prices barrier fencing generally at $5,000–25,000 and notes it needs its own building consent.
  • Range$68,000 – $122,000Nothing has been added on top: there is no margin, multiplier or “typical job” of ours in this number. Running costs are not in it either (commonly $1,000–2,000 a year, CheckMyBuilder).

What this tool will not do

Invent a number

There is no NZ Swimming Pools figure in the result: no margin, no multiplier, no “typical job” of ours. Every line is somebody else's published band, cited.

Price a pool type we cannot source

Plunge, lap and above-ground pools are not options, because no New Zealand source we could read publishes an installed price for them. What else we left out.

Send you to three builders

Nothing here is shared. If you want an introduction it is one builder, on a separate form, with a separate tick box and the fee disclosed.

Questions

Is this a quote?

No. It adds up published cost bands and shows you where each one came from. Only a builder who has stood on your section can quote, because the site is what moves the number most.

Why is there no single total for some combinations?

Because the sources treat GST differently. CheckMyBuilder states its figures exclude GST unless stated; Ultimate Pools publishes retail prices, which include it. Adding them into one GST-inclusive figure would invent a precision that is not there, so each line says which it is.

Why can't I pick a plunge pool or a lap pool?

Because we could not find a New Zealand source that publishes an installed price for them and shows its working. Rather than guess, we left them out. See our editorial policy.

Does picking a region change my number?

No. The regional figure is shown alongside your range, not multiplied into it. CheckMyBuilder publishes those figures as indicative adjustments for regional labour and materials, not as measured averages, so treating them as a multiplier would overstate what they are.

What happens to my email if I send myself the estimate?

We email you the estimate and store the row so we can answer if you reply. It is not passed to a builder: that only happens on the referral form, and only if you tick a separate box.
