Pool builders, region by region

12 SPASA-accredited NZ pool builders across 8 regions. Every listing is editorial — builders don't pay for placement, and every quote we route includes the 1.2-metre fence and council CCC sign-off.

AucklandNorth Island

3 builders

The biggest pool market in the country and the deepest bench of SPASA-accredited builders. Section access is the bottleneck — Auckland villas with narrow drives often need a crane day for fibreglass shells, which adds $3–6k to delivery. Auckland Council consent for the pool itself is straightforward; the fencing inspection is where most pools fail first time.

WellingtonNorth Island

1 builder

Smaller pool market by volume — wind, hill sites, and a short swim season tilt the maths toward heated plunges and indoor pools rather than full-size in-grounds. Most installs are heated; without a heat pump you're looking at six weeks of usable water per year on the south coast.

ChristchurchSouth Island

2 builders

Post-quake Canterbury has more available builders than the North Island metros and softer pricing on concrete shells in particular. Long, dry summers make pools genuinely worthwhile here — but the winter shut-down maths is real, so almost every install includes a heat pump or solar mat.

HamiltonNorth Island

2 builders

Waikato's pool market is genuinely strong — flat sections, warm summers, and good builder availability. Most Hamilton-based crews also cover Cambridge, Te Awamutu and Morrinsville. Lifestyle blocks here are the natural home for full-size 10m concrete pools.

TaurangaNorth Island

1 builder

The Bay has the longest practical swim season in the country and a demographic that buys pools — both factors keep builders booked twelve months out. Salt-air corrosion on stainless rails and pool covers is a real consideration on coastal sections; brief your builder accordingly.

QueenstownSouth Island

1 builder

The most expensive pool market in NZ. Alpine freeze-thaw means every shell needs a winter shutdown plan, every line wants insulated pipework, and the logistics of getting concrete trucks up Closeburn or Speargrass adds materially to the bill. Heated plunges outnumber full-size pools here three to one.

NapierNorth Island

Hawke's Bay's long, dry summers make pools highly usable — and a healthy bench of builders keeps lead times reasonable. Heritage Art Deco neighbourhoods have set boundaries on pool fence aesthetics; some local crews specialise in glass-pool-fence detailing that suits the architecture.

DunedinSouth Island

1 builder

The smallest of the eight markets we cover. Dunedin's swim season is short enough that most pools end up indoor or covered — outdoor in-ground builds are rare and almost always pair with a heat pump and an automatic cover. Pricing is genuinely soft compared to the North Island.
